Call_in_and_put_to_sleep.JPG
Called In and Put to Sleep243 viewsI sat out with two buddies one day and we called in this second fox (the first came, saw, and left before it could be cross-haired). It bounced across the field about 150 yds out before being dropped. I caught the hunt on the video camera.
DSCN2946.JPG
First double.490 viewsThis was my first hunt with my .17HMR. Ken Erickson and I spotted these two foxes running parrallel to the road. We went ahead and called them in. We were in a prone position and it was amazing how close they came even with seeing us. One I shot immediately and the second was only wounded so I had to walk out into the field several hundred yards before I got the kill shot.
Evening_fox_with_JohnS.JPG
Evening fox.491 viewsWhen this fox came in to the call, the colour of the fur was so close to the colour of the field stubble that it was almost invisible. It took me quite a few seconds to see it after JohnS spotted it. It was our last stand of the day and a great way to end a hunt.
First_fox_with_deer_shield.JPG
246 viewsSome areas where I hunt are very flat for miles and a fox/coyote can easily spot you from a long ways away. I made this deer shield out of cardboard to help me get closer. It worked well. Ken
Fox_and_coyote.JPG
One of each from the same stand.273 viewsOn the first stand of the morning in early March I Crit'Rcalled in a fox from the left and a coyote from the right. Bill did the shooting while I did the calling and filming.
Fox_at_dusk.JPG
Fox at dusk; 449 yds261 viewsI first spotted this lassie at 329 yds while patrolling for foxes. By the time I'd gotten my camera set up and the rifle ready, she'd moved off to 449 where she stopped to have a pee. Wind was, fortunately, very calm but it was cold enough that I froze a small part of my nose that day.
Fox_from_rock_pile.JPG
Fox from a rock pile.262 viewsIn the background and to the right you can see a rockpile. It was from here that this fox was shot after being spotted from the roadway. A successful stalk and a successful shot. Very satisfying. The third of five animals that day.
Longest_shot_ever_on_fox.JPG
Longest shot ever on a fox.514 viewsThis fox was spotted near a dried-out slough. We were far enough away that it wasn't alarmed although it did run further into the field. The wind was very gentle and straight-on from the fox. A bit on the long side, but I couldn't resist. I knocked it down at 453 yards. Darn satisfying!

Almost too close272 viewsWent out today solely with the intention to try some stalking. This fellow wandered off before I could get set up but came to the Crit'R Call within a minute. Sooo close that I was afraid to move; had to wait until he'd wandered off about 100 yds before I felt comfortable moving away from the video camera and getting behind the rifle.
Sleeping_fox.JPG
Sleeping fox.398 viewsI was on the far side of the bush in the background when this fox was spotted sleeping. As I approached I kept the fox just at the edge of the bushline and when within range stepped a few yards further into the field and set up to shoot. Just then the fox stood up and stretched. I shot and it went down for a permanent nap.
Sniped_fox.JPG
Sniped fox476 viewsI was walking in to do some calling when I spotted this fox sleeping on a hilltop. I had my .222 at the time so I snowshoed back to my truck and swapped it for the .243 Middlestead. I was happy with the shot, but he bullet was too destructive. I had to leave the fox behind.
Stalked_fox.JPG
Stalked fox.188 viewsI spotted this fox in an almost ideal location; there was low land to sneak through and a bit of brush at the fence line where I shot from. I was able to get to within 161 yards--and I got the stalk and shot on video (for my next DVD)!
