15 second coyote400 viewsI had only just got the electronic call going and hadn't even time to put on my mitts before this guy's buddy showed up...and left. A few seconds later this one showed up and I was able to get the kill on film. Minutes later a third was spotted out in the field but it never came close enough.

First_of_2008_season.JPG
First of season484 viewsThis was the second of two separate coyotes that responded; the first came and left without giving me time to get the camera on it before leaving so I let it pass. This one paused at about 150 yards after crossing the field behind so I had enough time to track its approach. The ice is broken!

A Five Beaver Lodge597 viewsThis is the place where we got the five beavers. The pond is much smaller than you normally see, and the lodge wasn't much to brag about, but it was a 'full-house' that night!

First double.731 viewsThis was my first hunt with my .17HMR. Ken Erickson and I spotted these two foxes running parrallel to the road. We went ahead and called them in. We were in a prone position and it was amazing how close they came even with seeing us. One I shot immediately and the second was only wounded so I had to walk out into the field several hundred yards before I got the kill shot.

Two Crows, Five Easy Pieces430 viewsThis morning I shot two crows with the .204 Ruger. The first at 111 yards easily separated into two pieces (wing and body/wing). The second at 174 yards separated into three pieces (head, wing, body/wing). These are the first of the 2009 season for me. (KenC, eat your heart out...)Apr 06, 2009

A shot across the lake.451 viewsFrom the shooting bench I had a good shot at an 1100 yd coyote standing across the lake--and I almost made it! Boy, would making that shot have given me bragging rights...KenMar 31, 2009
Stalked_fox.JPG
Stalked fox.461 viewsI spotted this fox in an almost ideal location; there was low land to sneak through and a bit of brush at the fence line where I shot from. I was able to get to within 161 yards--and I got the stalk and shot on video (for my next DVD)!Mar 21, 2009
First_fox_with_deer_shield.JPG
478 viewsSome areas where I hunt are very flat for miles and a fox/coyote can easily spot you from a long ways away. I made this deer shield out of cardboard to help me get closer. It worked well. KenFeb 17, 2009
Blind_on_the_ground.JPG
Ground blind526 viewsI put together this ground blind to help me remain hidden longer as I try to film and shoot. At this spot I had 3 coyotes respond but they were downwind and picked up my scent at about 700 yds.Feb 05, 2009

Fox at dusk; 449 yds527 viewsI first spotted this lassie at 329 yds while patrolling for foxes. By the time I'd gotten my camera set up and the rifle ready, she'd moved off to 449 where she stopped to have a pee. Wind was, fortunately, very calm but it was cold enough that I froze a small part of my nose that day.Dec 23, 2008
